R/D: How many FANS do you have on your FACEBOOK FAN PAGE(S)? How about the rest of the world?

Here is a great article by TechCrunch –  with information provided by Sysomos.

Sysomos analyzed 600,000 fan pages on Facebook and came up with some great info…  The vast bulk of Facebook fan pages have between 10 and 1,000 fans.  Only 4 percent have more than 10,000 fans, and less than 1/20th of a percent have more than a million fans.  It breaks down as follows:

  • 95% of pages have more than 10 fans
  • 65% of pages have more than 100 fans
  • 23% of pages have more than 1,000 fans
  • 4% of pages have more than 10,000 fans
  • 0.76% of pages have more than 100,000 fans
  • 0.047% of pages have more than one million fans (297 in total).

Only 23% of FaceBook FAN PAGES have more then 1000 FANS…yes 77% of FACEBOOK FAN PAGES have less then 1000 FANS. Is it worth it to make a FAN PAGE and for what?

We are close to the 1000 mark for B.YONEST FAN PAGE (click here) – it took us about 6 months to get over 750 FANS.  We have Fans from just over 20 countries.  How would that have been possible 10 years ago?

The article goes on to discuss a difference between facebook and twitter:

“And unlike on Twitter, where popularity is correlated with how many times you Tweet, Facebook fan pages tend to be updated only once every 16 days. (not us, we update daily) And that’s really the big difference between Facebook fans and Twitter followers. On Twitter, you follow someone because you want to hear what they have to say. On Facebook, you fan them just to show your support of affinity.  Too often, it’s a throwaway gesture.  But then, fame is fleeting.”

(This is from the 2009 BET AWARDS)

A CYPHER is a hip-hop jam session or freestyle battle

A jam session is a musical act where musicians gather and play (or simply “jam”) without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements; improvisation.

Jam sessions are often used to develop new material, find suitable arrangements, or simply as a social gathering and communal practice session. Jam sessions may be based upon existing songs or forms, may be loosely based on an agreed chord progression or chart suggested by one participant, or may be wholly improvisational. Jam sessions can range from very loose gatherings of amateurs to sophisticated improvised recording sessions intended to be edited and released to the public.

Freestyle rap commonly refers to rap lyrics which are improvised through acapella or with instrumental beats, i.e. performed with few or no previously composed lyrics, off the top of the head[1][2][3][4][5]. It is similar to other improvisational music such as rock where there is a lead guitarist acting as the improviser and the backup guitarist providing the beat.

Originally, in Old School Hip-Hop, the term ‘freestyle’ referred to a pre-written rap verse that was not on any particular subject matter and was just written for the purpose of demonstrating skill[6]. The term is still occasionally used in this way, though the majority of today’s artists use it to mean improvised rapping[1].

T-PAIN releases “I AM T-PAIN” iPhone app – a new music revenue stream?

UPDATE UPDATE (Oct 1, 2009)

In the first 3 weeks alone, the application has seen 300,000 downloads. The average user spends around 66 minutes within the application — an absolutely ludicrous number for any app, much less one out of the entertainment category. To date, 4.1 million performances have been recorded within the application.

Looking to get more people in on the fun, Smule will be temporarily dropping the app’s price. From sometime later today until Saturday morning, the app will see a 66% price cut, dropping from the usual $2.99 down to just $0.99.

T-PAIN releases “I AM T-PAIN” iPhone app.  This was developed and released by SMULE – a California based iPhone developer who has raised 5.5m since its inception in 2008.  Smule’s other apps have more than 2 million app downloads so far.

(works w/ iTouch if you have external mic or headphone mic)

The first time I checked the apple app store – there was 20 reviews (rule: in order to write a review or rate you must purchase app) The second time I looked it was 47 reviews/ 72 ratings and 16 hours after release 63 reviews/94 ratings.

UPDATE:  4 days later:  at least 898 purchases

As time of writing there is 620 views on the YouTube video.  Second time I looked, 3,330 views.  and now 6 hours later 12,429 views – that is a pretty good reach for 16 hours after release.

UPDATE:  4 days later:  239,715 views

I am very interested and excited to see how BIG this application gets.  It looks FUN!   The uploading feature allows users to record there voice with auto-tune and place it on top of instrumentals and T-Pain songs.  Users can upload their songs to T-Pain’s site – great user generated content.   Very cool feature – check them out here.

This is innovation. After the download market went array – musicians/labels looked for new ways to commercialize their music…the ring-tone, an innovation a few years back made a a lot of money for a select group of artist (including T-Pain).   NOW labels /musicians are looking to the app as a new revenue stream?!  turn your thinking caps on…whats next???

Let’s see how BIG this “I Am T-Pain” app gets and how fast???  So much for the Death of Auto-tune (DOA).  This could lead to an even bigger mainstream appeal for auto-tune and T-Pain.

Eminem’s next album RELAPSE? KING MATHERS? Release date?

Posted in B.YONEST, MUZIK, RND with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 7, 2009 by invazion

Digging through the internet, the best conglomerate of info I found…

During the interview, Em put an end to rampant rumors of  his forthcoming LP being titled “King Mathers.” em

“There are alotta fake album titles floating out there–alot of bullshit titles. The real title of my album that’s coming out is called ‘Relapse.” Em tells Angea Yee of Shade 45.

MAY 19th is the release date for Relapse.

Followed by “Relapse 2,” which is planned for release in the second half of the year.

“A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year,” Eminem said in a news release. “I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff.”

“We go until it happens,”, producer Dr. Dre says about all the time he spends in the recording studio searching for hits. The highly acclaimed dreproducer says that he had once spent as long as 79 hours in a single stretch. “When the ideas are coming, I don’t stop until the ideas stop because that train doesn’t come along all the time.”.

SO RELAPSE 2 then DETOX album – WHAT ABOUT 50?  When does his album drop?  BEFORE I SELF DESTRUCT?

Before I Self Destruct will be the fourth studio album by rapper 50 cent, his final solo release in his current contract with Interscope Records, excluding a “greatest hits” album.

Recently, 50 Cent told MTV that he will release the album in June 2009 and a second album one month after Eminem’s second album.

“Eminem was always coming next year. But what happened was, I lost Dr. Dre to Eminem. Dre had to stop making his album to finish Eminem’s album,” explained Iovine. “Eminem hit a streak, and when a guy like Eminem gets on fire, you stop everything. That’s how we lost Dre.” says Interscope Records CEO Jimmy Iovine

Eminem’s Relapse will be the Detroit rapper’s first solo project in four years while 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct will the G-Unit honcho’s last album on his current contract with Interscope.

Detox, which will be Dre’s first solo project in ten years, will feature appearances from Lil Wayne and Jay Z , among others.

In related news, Eminem will be returning to his roots at the end of May as he headlines the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.
